Theory of Enchantment is an anti-racism course. I reached out to its founder on Twitter in August of 2020 and offered up my skills. She responded and asked me to make something that shows that shows why the course is unique. This video lays out its 3 principles, using graphics and found footage from the ever-useful Internet Archive.

Kaplan’s online classes are among its most popular products. The kickoff for the project was mid March 2020. So it was a timely moment to begin showcasing a product that was completely online. (See the “New Normal” ad for more Pandemic specific language) The goal with this ad was to briefly list its features.

The Kaplan books have been in the public consciousness for quite some time. Its Prep Plus offering is a more in-depth div into the content of the test that included more content in the book as well as online tests. When looking for the music I searched “sports” to get faster percussive sound that you may see in an athletic brand ad like Gatorade or Adidas.

In June of 2020 it was clear that a return to standard living was not coming anytime soon. Online learning had presented itself to be the only option to allow kids to continue their studies safely. Kaplan had been teaching online for over a decade so we decided to leverage the company’s experience with it to its advantage. We settled on finding roughly the number of online classes Kaplan had taught since 2008 and displaying the number growing over time.

For the beginning of the 2020 - 2021 school year, we continued to harp on Kaplan’s experience in online learning, this time asking students to record their own thoughts about online classes. Once they aired their grievances, we buoyed their attitudes with our online platform features.

Kaplan’s revamped online qbank for USMLE (US Medical Licensing Exam) Students made significant improvements from previous iterations boasting interactive 3D Illustrations and a test simulator that is identical to the actual test. As the first Youtube ad made after the company’s major rebrand in 2019 this was very much an experiment to see what these ads could look like in the future.

With all live in-person events cancelled, Kaplan partnered with Hexco to create an online spelling bee. The idea was simple enough; an event that would bring the excitement of a spelling bee to an unusual setting. There was a lot of freedom with this project. I settled on an energetic vibe with music to match. The words are the winning words of previous Scripps’ National Spelling Bees. The letters are jumbled and the jump and stretch to re-compose into the proper spelling.
